Michigan-bred Horse of the Year winners are selected in five categories each year, to honor horse racing excellence in Michigan. Selections are based on the horses' achievements in pari-mutual racing, including money earned and the level of competion. All winners are Michigan-bred horses which have performed with distinction, and have had a majority of their starts, or the majority of their money earned, at Michigan tracks."
